Women's Health

You do not have to be unwell to appreciate the benefits of Five Element Acupuncture. Even healthy people say they feel more balanced and centered after treatments. Acupuncture can potentially change any pattern of disharmony. In her practice, Jasmine focuses on the following:

  • Supporting a healthy menstrual cycle
  • Achieving a healthy pregnancy though acupuncture, nutritional/herbal advice, and fertility awareness
  • PMS and painful periods
  • Fertility issues
  • Sleep issues and anxiety related to family and parenting stress

Five Element Acupuncture can help you achieve balance in your life. It touches a person deeply on a physical, emotional and spiritual level, treating the whole being, not just symptoms of imbalance. Five element acupuncture utilizes the forces of nature to create change in our energy and harmonize our bodies. Anyone can benefit from this ancient medicine in our modern times.

Five Element acupuncture is based on the ancient Taoist philosophy that the seasons we see in nature also exist within ourselves. These seasons correspond with the Five Elements   Fire (Summer), Earth (Late Summer), Metal (Fall), Water (Winter), Wood (Spring). Illness arises when our energy does not flow freely between these elements, causing symptoms of disease, pain, and imbalance. In the sacred practice of Five Element Acupuncture each person is treated as an individual, with his or her own unique expression of the elements as a guide to treatments. It is a profound and gentle way to create change on a physical, mental, and spiritual level, always treating the root of the imbalance, not just the symptoms of disease.

Jasmine’s focus is on natural conception with the support of acupuncture, stress reduction, lifestyle changes, fertility awareness, and good nutrition. She does not specialize in IVF support or hormone therapy but has respect and experience in helping single moms and same gender families with donor insemination. Pregnancy

If you trust the inherant wisdom of the body you know that the body can not be forced into being pregnant or going into labor. Babies come when they are ready, but we can support the body to be at it’s strongest when the time comes. Jasmine’s approach is gentle and holistic with the long term health of the mother and baby her utmost priority.

Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life. When the body is healthy, it can be an energetic and joyful experience. But if the body is out of balance it can be uncomfortable and stressful. Whether you feel your body is out of balance, or you are really enjoying pregnancy and want to help your body stay in alignment for the upcoming labor acupuncture can help. All treatments are gentle and in consideration of the baby and mother working together.

Numerous studies about the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture for pregnancy related issues have been done. The following is a list of some of the issues that can be addressed:

  • Morning Sickness
  • Anemia
  • Digestive issues, heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Turning breech babies
  • High blood pressure
  • Exhaustion

It is recommended that every woman consider coming throughout pregnancy for preventative health and especially weekly starting at 35 weeks to prepare for and encourage a healthy normal labor.

Labor & Birth

Jasmine is currently offering house calls and birthcenter calls for labor. Birth acupuncture availability varies each day and depends on other birth and work commitments. Please call and leave a message, if I am available I will call you back within the hour. Hospital calls are not available at this time due to hospital policy.

If you think you may like to have acupuncture for your future birth, please call to schedule and appointment at least a month before your due date. It is best if you can come to at least 4 appointments before your due date to prepare for labor.

Jasmine has been attending births for 10 years and was certified as a midwife in 2003. In everything she does, she carries with her respect and amazement for the process of birth and her solid belief in birth as a normal healthy process.

Postpartum Healing and Breastfeeding

Special attention should be paid to postpartum moms and their healing process. In Chinese medicine there is a long tradition of treasuring this time in a woman’s life and it is seen as essential that the woman heal well if she is to continue to be healthy.

Postpartum moms need extra care to make sure they are rested and nourished to avoid postpartum blues and to support healthy lactation. Specialized postpartum acupuncture treatments can help with the following:

  • Healing of the vaginal tissue
  • Healing from surgery
  • Reduction in bleeding
  • Anemia
  • Lactation issues or pain
  • Postpartum blues and depression
  • General energy levels and exhaustion
  • Bonding and relaxation
  • Fussy babies, feeding problems (treating the mom will affect the newborn)

House calls are especially helpful during this time.

As every parent knows, the better, more rested, and taken care you feel the better you can care for your children. In fact, staying in balance and in tune with your family is essential to good parenting. Babies and children can always feel what their parents are going through on some level. Many people report feeling calmer, more centered, and patient after receiving regular treatments. Consider getting Five Element Acupuncture as a way to support healthy relationships with your children, your partner, and other family members.
